The Spinal Attunement Method
An introduction to the work
The Spinal Attunement Method™ body of work represents Level Two of the SOMAMYSTICA® body of work. While Level One (The Self Holding Method) establishes foundational practices for nervous system attunement, trauma mapping, and inner ecology, Level Two begins to weave in the more intricate anatomy of both the physical and energetic systems.
Here, we expand deeper into the subtle realms of self-holding, activation, and internal coherence as an exploration in our capacity to extend this somatic co-regulation and healing towards others within an informed practice and field.
Most people today live in chronic up-regulation — stuck in overdrive, unable to access rest, integration, and true repair. The Spinal Attunement Method™ works by gently shifting the nervous system from sympathetic dominance into parasympathetic regulation. As the system down-regulates, the brain shifts from high-frequency beta states into alpha, theta, and delta — correlating with access to deeper healing states.
The spine as a living channel of consciousness.
At the heart of the method is the understanding that the energetic system maps directly onto the nervous system. The spine is more than a structural feature of the body — it is a dynamic, living channel through which consciousness flows. It is also where many trauma responses, energetic imprints, and endocrine processes manifest.
We explore the body not only through its spinal anatomy but through its neuroendocrine field — the meeting of the nervous system and the endocrine system, a synthesis of the electrical (neural) and magnetic (hormonal) energies. The nervous system is masculine in nature: fast, electrical, directive. The endocrine system is its magnetic feminine counterpart: cyclical, hormonal, receptive. Together, they create a field of polarity within which life force flows.
In Eastern anatomy, this polarity is echoed in the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), which run along the back and front of the body — the central energetic channels through which yin and yang flow.
Vertical and horizontal axes.
In Spinal Attunement we work with two axes upon which we form our diagnosis and treatment:
- Vertical axis — The chakras and vertebral column form the vertical map of the spine, each energy centre aligning with key nerve bundles and endocrine glands.
- Horizontal axis — The five bodies (physical, emotional, mental, soul, spiritual) radiate out from the midline, forming a multidimensional landscape of presence and perception.
We also draw upon meridian theory, nadis, and reflexology, considering the body as an energetic river system. The fascia, like the mycelial network of the Earth, serves as connective tissue not only structurally but electromagnetically — transmitting emotion, memory, and sensation.
